Qualifications to be invited to apply include a cumulative GPA of 95% and 30 hours of documented community service. Eligible students with these baseline qualifications will receive a letter in the mail in the spring or fall inviting them to apply to be a member. A five-member Faculty Council will read, discuss and evaluate the information and essay submitted by each student, and select students who meet the aforementioned criteria.
The expectations of students who are selected are that they maintain the four qualities for which they were chosen (i.e., Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character) and participate in NHS sanctioned activities. There are yearly dues and a contract to be signed after induction. Once a student is inducted, that student is a member for life unless dismissed for a serious violation of the Bylaws.
