College Planning

*We recognize that not all students will go to college, and we are here to support all students as they develop a plan for what they will do after high school. Please visit this page for information about other post-secondary options such as a gap year, a post-grad year, or joining the military or work force.

We hope that the information here is helpful to you as you navigate the college planning and application process. Our office places an emphasis on student ownership and being responsive to each student’s individual needs. Feel free to contact Post-Secondary Counselor Ashley Pullen any time with questions!

Scoir College Planning Tool

Our office utilizes Scoir to assist students with their college search and planning. Each student will set up their account during November of their junior year. Once the student is connected, they can invite a parent/guardian to the platform as well. If you have any questions about Scoir, please reach out to us!

College Planning Services for FHS Students

Grade Eleven

In November, all juniors take part in a college planning workshop run by the college counselor.  In this session, they learn about:

  • different options for college

  • what the college application process entails

  • tools that are available to help with their search

Following this session, from November through June students have one-on-one meetings with the college counselor.  At this meeting, students:

  • review their transcript and extracurricular activities

  • start thinking about who to ask for recommendations

  • discuss how standardized testing may or may not pertain to their application process

  • identify/review colleges of interest, with a focus on developing a balanced list (including some "match" and "safe" schools)

Juniors are strongly encouraged to begin exploring colleges anytime, whether through virtual or in-person visits. Click here for tips on how to explore a college from afar and click here for more information about making the most of your (in-person) college visit.

Grade Twelve

During the fall, seniors participate in individual college planning meetings.  Assistance is also provided to students, on an as-needed basis, in refining and finalizing their balanced list of schools and completing the application and essay.

Admissions representatives from a wide range of colleges and universities visit Falmouth High School each fall (see our visit calendar for details).  Seniors are strongly encouraged to meet with the admissions representatives for any schools that are of interest to them.

Seniors are also encouraged to continue visiting colleges of interest to them.  For more information, see “Make the Most of Your College Visit.”
